Attraction Marketing Versus Interruptive Marketing

Most people are familiar with interruptive marketing techniques such as phone calls, random newspaper ads, and email blasting to pitch your business.  This is interruptive because it interrupts the current thought that the viewer is having.  Someone is reading the sports section in the newspaper and their eyes catch an ad off to the side about Nike.  The reader was not looking for shoes, they were reading about the 2010 Olympics and the ad interrupted their thought process.

Interruptive marketing methods can work in mass numbers but let’s discuss attraction marketing then compare.

Examples:

  • Record videos about How-To use pay-per-click to grow your business.
  •  Write an informative article about the benefits of using a blog versus a standard website.
  • Host a webinar to explain Social Networking to grow your business

The point of attraction marketing is to offer value to others and you will attract them to you.  You will develop a loyal following…as long as your heart is in the right place.  You can not be out to make a quick buck.  Think long-term and put others before the almighty dollar and your actions will be that of a marketer that  pulls people to you.

If you aren’t sure what skill you have to share start learning.  Learn a new skill through seminars, books, audio cds, and webinars.  Master it, then share it.   Keep on learning, mastering, and sharing.  That’s it.

Sounds simple right?  However, what is easy to do is also easy…not to do.  It’s in your hands but I want to leave you with one more thing before you watch the video.

When someone calls you out of the blue to join you or buy your product and you spent exactly zero seconds chasing them…it’s much more fun and rewarding.  It’s also a more powerful contact because they have demonstrated already that they like what you have to offer because they contacted you.

An interesting way to promote yourself. What I see as the biggest stumbling block is knowing what you know that people will want to learn and then getting someone to watch or read it. I guess I need to learn more about socal networking.

This was a big a-ha for me to learn. Gee, why do people not answer my phone calls? For the same reason I don’t pick up the phone sometimes! Duh! We have to think of ourselves as a customer.
